A couple thoughts after the Grammys last night...
- Trevor Noah's comment at the beginning about the swifties felt a bit.... pointed. This, combined with all the talk about how the Grammys voters don't consider chart performance, it felt like it was all directed (at least partially) towards her, especially now that we know that she lost them all.
- She still has yet to win a Grammy for which Billie was also nominated. Granted Billie didn't win this year either (which fuckin sucks), but I had suspected that Taylor would lose most of the awards because she was up against Billie for them.
- She still has never won either SOTY (eight nominations) or ROTY (six nominations).
- She is the most nominated artist for SOTY in history and still hasn't won. It makes me wonder if the recording academy is dangling this award in front of her like the carrot that she will never get. Perhaps it is to get her to show up? It is interesting that the "songwriter of our generation" (per the swifties) has yet to win the top award for a songwriter. She must HATE this.
- After her behavior last year, I wonder if they pulled her in with the offer to present an award but didn't want to reward her in case she pulled another stunt (like snubbing Celine). It almost feels like a test to see how she would react.
- She looked PISSED when Chappell won, and my theory is that she is insanely jealous of anyone that wins Best New Artist (Billie, Olivia, and now Chappell) because she lost to Amy Winehouse back in 2008 and can't be nominated a second time. Or perhaps she is afraid that any winner of BNA would have the power to eclipse her.
- With all the messages about LGBTQIA+ rights, recognition of the wildfire victims, and Chappell's speech about healthcare, she looked extremely uncomfortable. Plus the look on her face when they were honoring the fire fighters was awful. After her Lover/activism era and her Miss Americana documentary you'd think she'd at least know how to act.
- I saw a clip of her talking to (who I was told was) the Recording Academy president, and he clearly didn't want bothered. Do we think that they are all tired of her shit, but are using her to get views/clicks?
Anyone else have any thoughts on the above?
