Here's the latest from Sonos on the Era 300
I know some of you have been frustrated by the Era 300 surround sound situation, so I'm providing the latest statement I got from the company this morning re: how the inner driver should be functioning:
The signal processing and driver behavior for Era 300 has remained the same since its launch last year. When synced with any Sonos soundbars with Dolby Atmos support (Arc Ultra, Arc and Beam Gen 2), the inner speaker (tweeter + woofer) is not disabled on the Era 300 surround. The rear surround audio channel is emitted from both the inner speaker and the up-firing tweeter. Many users have their Era 300 speakers positioned fairly close to their main listening position, creating a direct path between them and the inward-facing speaker of Era 300. If the volume coming from the inner firing speaker is too loud, it can become overwhelming, which can impact the listening experience. Additionally, the rear surround audio is shared between the inner firing speaker and the up-firing speaker to improve the immersive and environmental quality of the rear surround sound stage. If you listen closely, you will hear the appropriate sound coming from the inner speaker, but it is not meant to match the volume coming from the up-firing tweeter.
I'm guessing this'll be covered some more in today's office hours with Keith and crew, so your follow-up Qs / feedback might be best-served in that thread. But there ya go! For now.
