Audiobooks narrated by the author?
Open question: as a new author about to publish their debut novel, how important is it for an audiobooks to be available right off the bat?
More specifically, what are peoples perceptions regarding audiobooks narrated by the author? For budget reasons, it's probably my only path to releasing an audiobook any time soon, but is this a pitfall / red flag of some kind to readers? I don't love my voice, but I don't have a lisp or any kind of speech impediment. Just a bit of a mid-western accent and I'm not that emotive. More than anything, I just don't want my first foot forward to leave the impression that I'm not taking my project seriously.
Knee jerk reactions, or advice grounded in familiarity with today's market, are all welcome. I'm writing in the fantasy space, if it matters.
