Methotrexate or Biologics?
Hi everyone, I have been lurking here for awhile and am in a conundrum. I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis at 14 and have had terrible rheumatology care and treatment for a decade now. I have been on a slew of NSAIDs since diagnosis (Naproxen, Celebrex and the likes) which have both ruined my stomach, caused a bout of cystitis and now joint damage to my left knee from them being ineffective.
Flash forward to this week, I was able to see a new rheumatologist (who is wonderful). Her initial recommendation was 15 mg of Methotrexate a week, with the possibility of moving forward into biologics if necessary. I took my first dose of MTX and feel terrible, as well as the research regarding side effects has me a bit freaked out. Essentially what I am wondering is if any of you folks have had a lot of success with methotrexate and minimized side effects, or if you've had more success with biologics? Any insight would be much appreciated!
