Honest question from a liberal
Since Elon commandeered the Treasury and started “deleting” federal programs, I’ve seen a lot of celebration by conservatives. But I haven’t seen any reflection about the precedent it sets that a new government agency that was never approved by Congress is essentially taking over the power of the purse, a power the US Constitution explicitly says rests solely with the legislative branch. Does this really not bother Republicans, or do they believe these steps are so necessary that violating the US Constitution to achieve their goals is a necessary evil?
What I find weird about this is that the Republican majority in both houses would probably be thrilled to axe whatever government programs Elon recommends. So to someone who is a fan of neither Trump nor Elon, it looks like the power grab is the actual point here.
