How long after airbrushing can I apply tamiya panel liner ?

I just applied a gloss coat to a part of my model and let that dry for an hour or so and then applied my tamiya panel liner. When I used tamiya x20 A thinner to try and remove excess it also removed the underlying paint :( I’m a new scale modeler so I don’t know much about
