We don’t let things evolve anymore
Cross posting between Marvel and DC subs. Just something I’ve been thinking about over the past few months with all the marketing coming out for various superhero content. It seems like now all people wanna do is just complain about something. Now I’m aware it’s not most fans and really it’s just a very vocal minority. But damn it’s as if they take what they see in a single trailer and believe that’s what the character will be forever and if they don’t get the look they want or if the character doesn’t say or act exactly the way they want then it’s all ruined.
For example with Superman and “I don’t like the way his suit looks, they butchered it”. Well…when has any character ever had the same suit for all their movies. It’ll evolve, it’ll get better I’m sure.
Crazy one I heard was a friend that said they don’t like the retro-futurism in F4 and how The Thing looks weird but who’s to say that’s what the franchise will be after the first movie. Captain America 1 was a period piece and the sequel was drastically different in tone. Hulk CGI got better and better over the years.
What happened to just taking in a good story, and letting the character, their design, etc all evolve. It’s like “fans” just assume this one appearance is the end all, be all for them and that’s how they’ll be forever when in reality we’ve spent years seeing our favorite characters grow and change. It could very well be something I’m over exaggerating in my own head but damn it’s like everytime I see a nitpicky complaint about something I wanna point to the history of superhero movies and say “can you just chill it’ll be fine”.
