Why such an expensive quote?

I recently bought a 1955 home and it has the original cabinets in the kitchen and they have been poorly painted. I asked a contractor to come by to give me a quote on new cabinets/countertop and sink and update our ceiling.

He added a few things that I don’t think are necessary but even so - this estimate seems outrageous?!

I’ll be looking elsewhere but this isn’t normal, right?
