How to get anything done in this game?

I'm loving the game so far. It's just very challenging. I don't think I've made any real progress after the intro sequence. No money to my name, low on food, losing almost every fight because it's so unforgiving, and ending up constantly injured with nowhere to sleep to recover health. Even Bozhena ratted me out for sleeping at her house. Stale food got me food poisoning and already ended my game once. I can't get started with any of the quests, either, because Henry is fighting to even stay alive. Any ideas to get anything done, Bohemia bros?

Edit: Thanks for the tips to everyone. Lots of you had similar tips and they really helped. I second going to the blacksmith! Having a bed and a chest for yourself makes a big difference.
