NSV- Kayaking
One of my big motivators for getting this surgery was being able to keep doing the things I love to do. I could tell that my weight was starting to limit me from being able to do things and enjoy them.
The picture on the right was taken last May, two months before my surgery. I barely fit into my kayak. After the paddle I had angry red marks that bruised from where the gunnels had been squeezing me on the sides. When my friend sent me this picture I was astounded. I looked at it and wondered “how can that be me”.
The picture on the left was taken last week, almost exactly 7 months post op. My husband and I rented glass bottom kayaks and when I told the tour guide that we had kayaks, he didn’t question me. He trusted I knew what I was doing, and before even seeing me paddle he suggested an alternate route my husband and I could take that he recommended for advanced paddlers. In the past, kayak and rafting guides have always seemed skeptical of my skill, even when I tell them I’ve been paddling my whole life.
I don’t have to worry if I’ll fit. I don’t have to prove that I know what I’m doing.
If you’re wondering if this surgery is worth it- I can tell you with confidence, it 100% is.
