Another experience at the BYU basketball game last night confirmed to me that BYU fans are the worse in college basketball
I was attending the game with two friends of mine who are BYU students, so I was sitting in the student section. We had good seats, only about ten rows from the court. I am a diehard UVU and utah fan since I go to UVU, and as a result rooted for Arizona. However, out of respect to the student section, I wore BYU gear and stayed absolutely silent whenever AZ hit a three pointer or a big shot. There was absolutely no way anyone in the student section besides my friends would know I was rooting for UofA.
In the middle of the first half, I was texting a UofA friend of mine pro Arizona texts and quietly celebrating with him whenever BYU missed a shot or UofA made one. A male fan behind me said to me, “I can see what you’re texting. You’re clearly an Arizona fan. Why are you even here? I could report you and get you kicked out right now.” My two friends (guy and his girlfriend) both basically told him that since I wasn’t wearing any Arizona gear or even cheering for them openly, he needed to shut up. One of them asked him, “”What is he doing that’s taking away from your enjoyment of the game? Nothing. He’s staying quiet and showing no emotion when Arizona scores.” He responded that I was texting pro Arizona memes that he could see, and she responded, “You care to explain to us why you’re looking over his shoulder and reading his texts?” He went silent after that.
Here’s the best part: Arizona beat BYU 85-74, and once I left the student section, I was celebrating with my friend the entire bus ride home. As I’ve said before on this subreddit, this is not my first encounter with a nasty fan at a BYU game. What an entitled fanbase. Fuck the Cougars now and forever, and go Wildcats!
