Automatic for motorway

I recently got my license (automatic) and need to drive from Clonmel to little island Cork every day (1 hour drive) for work after college ends.

I’m not great with car knowledge and would like some help picking one out. I have about 8k to spend for the car and insurance.

I need something reliable, I also prefer cars that aren’t very long bodied.

I’m not sure whether to pick a diesel or a petrol hybrid.

Any advice of car rec’s appreciated!
