I really, really respect Scott Thomas's reaction at the sentencing of Jaskirat Sidhu, over the Humboldt bus incident.
They're doing a live video from in front of the court house, and Mr. Thomas is just the epitome of class. Instead of being bitter and cruel, he gave credit to the justice process, and showed some quiet respect for his son's killer taking full and complete ownership of things.
When asked how long he wanted Sidhu charged for, he flatly said he didn't care if it was ten years, or one day, because Sidhu walked in, and took full ownership. He even left the door open for a one-on-one discussion with the man in the future.
I can't imagine being in the same position as Scott Thomas in my lifetime, and I can't imagine demonstrating that level of conviction, and wisdom. I don't doubt the completely unexpected total ownership from the guilty driver helped the reaction - some people were expecting this to be a long trial, and process - but even taking that into account, I hope I have the dignity to face this sort of tragedy with half the patience and thoughtfulness as this prairie father displayed.
