Just to make things clear.

I don't like Assad, and i hope you all don't see him as some hero or something. I was and remain sceptical of HTS and the future of Syria under their hands. Ofcourse people should celebrate since Assad fell, Syrians deserve that. What I find surprising is that a lot of people think communists generally like Assad. So just for the record, i don't. The only reason to support him was that he was an ally to the Palestinian anti-colonial effort, merely a means. No matter how brutal or disgusting of a person he was, he was needed in Damascus. I remain sceptical of the US backed rebels. But I do hope that they back stab them or something.

The new regime would probably be just as brutal and repressive. So if you asked us to support Islamists backed by the US over a brutal dictator that helps anti colonial movement, I think the choice is clear.

I've seen many posts accusing "tankies" of shedding tears over Assad, of how terrible we are, and how derisive we act towards the oppressed Syrians.

I want to tell them, no. The only thing I'm sad about is losing an ally for Palestine and worried about the future of Syria. That doesn't mean I don't like Syrians celebrating Assad's fall.

What do y'all think?
