When I spawn eater of worlds he goes underground and then dissapeers.

Today I spawned the eater of worlds with worm food I was playing on classic mode and I spawned him in the corruption biome. He just went underground and never came back again. Can someone tell me how to fix it because I need shadow scales? Thanks
