my tooth has an unbearable sharp, shooting pain with anything hot or cold, specifically drinks?
UPDATE 2: hi all! sorry for such a late update, life has been completely off the rails lately, but the one thing that is actually going very well is my dental work! i got a root canal on 12/23, it took less than 20 minutes and i didn’t feel any pain whatsoever.
when i originally had the consultation, it was like $90 or something stupid to pay, so i asked my sister-in-law what her thoughts were both as family and as a dental hygienist, and she told me to wait until i was sure i wanted to continue with the root canal.
my team of dentists asked me if i wanted to proceed and i told them flat out (something along the lines of) “I have about $100 until my next paycheck and I got paid a few days ago, so I cannot afford to do anything further with this.” and let me tell you, whoever this lady at my dentist is, i hope she has the best possible life ever because she knocked down the entire procedure, my temporary crown, AND my permanent crown down to as little as $50 payments monthly with no interest. i love that woman more than life itself and i hope she knows that.
so i do currently have my permanent crown in, like i said, i had the root canal on 12/23, the temporary placed on 1/3, and finally my permanent crown placed on 1/17.
my tooth is feeling great! i’m all fixed up and i even got a nice new toothbrush, started using a toothpaste that’s really helping, and have overall improved my dental hygiene due to this.
thank you everyone who helped, gave advice and asked how i was doing, i appreciate it :) it’s nice to know i got some people who are, at the very least, interested in my experience!
UPDATE: i went to my dentist who did some experimenting with the tooth (cold air, pressure, tapping etc.) and then did another x-ray of my teeth. he said i have a small fracture and that i need to go to a nerve specialist to see if i will need a root canal or if my dentist can go ahead and give me a crown. i was able to get the consultation for today in just a few hours, but is there any possible chance that i would be fine without a root canal and/or crown?
my financial situation is dire right now and if im able to not do this, it would be really great :(
12/11/24 hi friends, my (21f) upper right tooth/teeth possibly, (either the 3rd or 2nd to back tooth, or both, can’t tell) are in SO much pain when i drink anything cold or eat something hot. it feels as if someone is shoving an ice cube into the root of my tooth and it has been on and off pulsing of pain since last night.
i made a doctor’s appointment for tomorrow morning to get it checked out and i would not be surprised if it was a cavity that just got too bad. i think it’s one of my teeth that my dentist has a flag on to check every time i get a cleaning, but i guess i’m wondering if he knew if it was that bad the last time i got checked, which was last Tuesday, and he said that everything looks good.
i also just recently started using sensodyne, starting on the Tuesday i got my cleaning last week. i don’t know if that has anything to do with my tooth being in excruciating pain to the point of being unable to drink room temp water, but i thought i’d mention it.
any ideas? advice?
