My side as a young and devout Filipino Catholic on Divorce

I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again, I want to bring an argument that can anger many of you since personally, I don’t believe Divorce will solve all our problems, but I’m not here to start a debate, rather I propose this:

If you were married by a Priest in the Catholic Rite of Matrimony then got a divorce through the civil laws of the Philippines, in the eyes of God you are still married. If you were married by a judge through the signing of a contract/certificate, then got a divorce, in the eyes of God you two were not married in the first place.

Even if a proper Divorce law was passed in the Philippines, the Sacrament won’t be mutilated. The only way I see it being mutilated is young couples choosing the civil way of marriage rather than go through the Catholic Church, or go through another fatih’s rite that does allow this legal procedure to end the bond to happen.

But in all honesty, I am actually curious how this will turn out in the next few years, once this law is passed, giving it copied or at least was heavily based on the US method of civil divorce, I wanna see how this will affect the new generation of couples in their experience of being in a relationship, I predict the slow decent of the quality of relationships, since this tool would be much more available to the public,I predict that it will result in couples using this method to commit all sorts of things we wouldn’t see in an annulment.

In my opinion, I see us going through what the US continues to go through with this much power for both parties to end a relationship.

Me personally, I would prefer someone that would go through a Catholic marriage, as a devout Catholic myself, who would not only love me but love God and the union he made for us.

Just my thoughts on this whole situation, personally I don’t want to fight since I know the people will clamor for it, since now at least the law was given a chance to be passed, I don’t know enough about politics for this, but I see that many want it passed, all I can offer is my prayers.

May God bless you all.
