Attachment Points

So I'm new to the game, and I understand you have to level the weapons in order to unlock the various attachments, muzzles, foregrips, sights, etc. But what I can't figure out is how to unlock the attachment points. I leveled the M4 platform and got the sight, but all of my other weapons have the Optic attachment option locked. What do I need to do to unlock it?
