Should Minecraft add Palm Trees and Dates as a desert exclusive items?

Since wood and food and limited in desert since you can't farm and don't have a lot of animals. I think adding Palm Trees and dates would be a good edition to the desert and actually encourage people to build their bases in it. What do you think?
