Music Tool – Audio Quality Questions
Hi all,
The FAQs for the Music Tool on the LightPhone website states:
*Auto Converting Files:
Once uploaded, the dashboard will begin to automatically convert your songs into 256kb mp3 files, an ideal size and compression for the Light Phone II. If the file is less than 256kb it will simply be converted to an mp3 file.
Occasionally a song may fail to upload or convert, a notification is displayed in the Edit Playlist page. In rare cases there may not be a notification displayed though an error occurred, please try to upload the song again.*
I have some hi-res individual FLAC files that are 130mb each. I would not want these compressed down to 256kpbs MP3.
Notice it refers to the Light Phone II. That left me wondering about the LP3. When I asked the LightPhone team about this in May 2024 (they hadn't released the specs for the LP3 yet), their reply was that it would be “considered for future models”.
Does that mean this a hardware limitation with LP2? Will this be possible on LP3?
Can anyone confirm, is this still presently a limitation?
Also, is there a local companion app to allow the transfer of files/data to the phone without going all around the houses, up to data servers only to download it all again. (If you're regularly uploading a few hundred megabytes of audio, I imagine this would become tedious very quickly.)
Thanks.
