An Environmentally Conscious Guide To Program Music Selection
Are YOU a senior level skater looking for your new program this season and just struggling to come up with a new idea? Well never fear, we have the solution for YOU!
Do you remember a program from the last 10 or so years you thought was iconic? Just a really cool program! Well, you can just take the program! Control C Control V baby! Be that Gracie Gold's Firebird ever so kindly recycled by Sarah Everhardt or Shoma Uno's Buenos Aires Hora Cero as has been repurposed by the one and only Junhwan Cha!
Don't worry about the details here, if you like a music cut and a choreographic style? It's yours for the taking! After all, people will just forget! Soon enough, YOUR program will be the true one. We all know Grassl originated White Crow programs!
Always remember we are here to REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE the artistry required to create a good program! The less of them we make, the BETTER!
So I have come up with a helpful, step by step guide to making YOUR program music selection
- Has someone done this music before? Yes? GOOD! Nothing new must ever be skated to. That would be scary.
- Has a world champion skated to this music before? Yes? PERFECT! Now you too can ride off that world champion association. Even better if you use a similar cut! That way, you have THE world champion program! Basically a world champion already! (This strategy has been well employed by many Korean skaters, they haven't managed to clone Yuna Kim yet but they'll get there eventually!)
- If it isn't a world champion's program music, is it at least a highly memorable program? GREAT! You want that association of fondness. Maybe it was particularly innovative for its time, or just a highlight in a skater's career! (See Kolyada's White Crow and Gracie Gold's Firebird). Again, if you can just ~exude~ that energy and remind people of something they loved enough once, then they'll like you without you and your choreographer needing to come up with your own identity!
- Be sure to not change too much about the choreographic language! Pick pretty much the same beats! Put your jumps in the same place! Wouldn't want to scare people with too much originality! That would be bad!
- Do Moulin Rouge. Start with Tango de Roxanne! No one has ever done this before!
jokes aside I am really quite tired of uh.... the copious amounts of recycled music and shockingly similar cuts to recent programs and I hope this trend goes away ._.
Until then: REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE THOSE PROGRAMS
