Can you like a book with well written characters but the plot may be lacking
I’m curious to see how people feel about the question above because I just finished a little stranger and before I read little stranger people had said the plot was lacking and that’s why they didn’t like it but for me if a book has very well written, main characters or even one of the main characters is very well written, even if the plot is lacking I can still give that book 5 stars because I’m not reading that book necessarily for the plot I’m reading it for the character development in it. For me little stranger wasn’t bad like the plot wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t as intricate as other dark romance books plots, for example devils night series. For the devils night series I did not like any of the main characters. My favorite character was actually a side character character named Alex, but I ate up those books because the plot was so good and I couldn’t turn myself away from the plot, but I didn’t necessarily like any of the main characters that much I feel like except for Damon Torrance. So personally, I feel like when you’re looking at other peoples ratings for a book, you really have to ask yourself. Are they more of a plot person or more of a character development person? Do they take both things into a account because I thought I wouldn’t like little stranger because I love a intricate plot, but I end up, loving it because of the well written character of Malachi and his development in the book.
Sidenote: I love tragically written characters like the more tragic characters backstory is the more unhinged and sinister the more I like them, and those are the characters I tend to gravitate towards.
