Thoughts on what might have caused this reaction?
Woke up this morning and ran our babygirl to the emergency vet. She had a swollen face and raised hives. They gave her a steroid shot and Benadryl shot. It has gone down significantly but I want to figure out what caused it to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Some things to note:
We did an allergy test previously and know she is allergic to storage mites and cats. We don’t have cats nor access to them. We also freeze all food she eats and only give carrots as treats. She has had the same diet for months
She had vaccines almost a week ago so the vet ruled those out as the cause. Never had a reaction to the vaccines she received.
She only goes outside for potty breaks that are supervised and since it is winter and we have an insect treatment service, bugs are rarely seen. They said it could be a bug bite but they were skeptical of this cause given those two facts.
When she is outside she does like to chew leaves and sticks. I try my best to get her to stop but she does get them from time to time.
She isn’t on any medications.
We haven’t changed anything in our routine and she hasn’t been around other dogs, other than her brother, in a week.
No new products such as detergent for our household either. (Even then we use All free and clear for sensitive skin)
So I’m at a loss at what could have done this? Maybe it was a bug? Could something on a stick or leaf, like bacteria cause this? It was rainy yesterday.
Thanks so much!
