What happens when a property damage police report is filed?
I had an incident today where a guy behind me was following me with his bright ass highbeams beams on while on the highway, so when he sped past me I give him a quick flash of mine, kinda hoping it was just a mistake or something and he’d turn them off. This angry little man then stood on his brakes, stopping me (he was in my lane at this point) and got out the car. He rushed up to my window and I threw my truck in reverse and just drove around him. While I threw it back in drive, he smacked my driver mirror, breaking the electric folding function and breaking some of the internal plastic clips for the cap. He then followed me to the red left turn arrow light where he pulled behind me and got out, where I simply just sped off again into the straight lane with a green light before he reached my window. I called 911 after he got out the first time since I knew he was following me and later showed the video to the police (the guy wasn’t present, he quit following me and I couldn’t find his car after I turned back around). They are writing me up a report for ~$100 of property damage (it’s minor and I can fix it myself, but more so for sending a message because wtf was wrong with this guy). What happens next? Is he contacted by police or what? I haven’t filed anything with insurance (I don’t have full coverage, and I also don’t care to deal with them) so I’m just curious as to what happens next. Should I just have left it alone and not filed? I was advised to file one and I was still hot headed about the incident at the time.
