People are not willing to accept India's shortcomings
I have seen a lot of people (especially men) who can't seem to accept that India is a patriarchal society. They seem not to want to admit that the Indian society has any flaws. But the only way to improve is to reflect on our flaws.
I am a JEE aspirant, and everyone, from teachers to the top 50 AIR holders, told me that the most important thing in this journey is to analyze my mistakes. They told me that all my preparation is useless if I don't analyze my mistakes.
If analyzing one's mistakes plays such a big role in an entrance exam, imagine how much of a bigger role it must play in society. How are we supposed to improve if we can't even accept what our mistakes are?
Also what most of these people don't realise is that patriarchy is not just harmful to women, it's also harmful for men. The expectations that are set for men by society are very toxic and a by-product of patriarchy. Getting rid of patriarchy doesn't only help women, it also helps men.
One thing that I have noticed is MRAs don't really care about men at all. They only care about hating women. They only speak up when the crime against men has been committed by a woman and never when the attacker is a man. Even though men are the main perpetrators against men.
Another thing is whenever women speak up about sexual harassment, men come to the comments and say not all men. But when a woman asks how to stay safe when living alone, these are the same people who warn her to be aware of the men around her. You may say "not all men" but how many of you would leave a woman that you love alone in a room full of men? While it is not all men, it is mostly a man. No woman should ever have to play Russian Roulette with her safety just so a man's feelings don't get hurt. And the majority of crimes against men are committed by men.
There is no harm in accepting that our society is patriarchal and misogynist if we want to grow and improve. The only way to grow is by analyzing and accepting our shortcomings and working on them.
