I don't think a Canadian invasion from the US is actually possible.

There's a lot of fear surrounding this topic and rightly so. I did quite a bit of research to try and understand "could this actually be a thing? A military invasion of the US in Canada?" Short answer... no.

Let's list the amount of red tape involved in this process. 1st, the USA is still a democracy, it's not Russia. Even if Trump says, let's do a military invasion of Canada, here's what would need to happen.

to be transparent : this list was built during a chatgpt conversation.

  1. Only Congress can declare war, and a president would need Congressional approval to launch a major military action.
  2. Without a legitimate national security threat, it’s almost inconceivable that Congress would authorize military action against Canada, especially given the widespread public opposition that would arise.
  3. The United Nations Charter prohibits unprovoked acts of aggression against sovereign nations. (though he couldn't care less, there's still impacts involved.
  4. The U.S. and Canada are part of numerous bilateral agreements and alliances, including NORAD and NATO, that emphasize cooperation and mutual defense. Violating these would cause severe diplomatic fallout.
  5. Even with all the tariffs he plans to put on, Canada is one of America’s largest trading partners. Any military action would disrupt economic ties, harm U.S. businesses, and trigger global market instability. 6.The financial cost of a military operation would be enormous, further deterring any serious consideration.
  6. Federal courts would almost certainly intervene to prevent unconstitutional action. Believe it or not, the constitution is still something a lot of Americans value.
  7. The military is bound by U.S. law and the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and senior officers are unlikely to follow orders that clearly violate constitutional and international norms.
  8. The American public has no appetite for a military confrontation with Canada, a close ally and peaceful neighbor.
  9. Canadian public opinion is overwhelmingly against annexation. Any attempt to claim Canadian territory would likely be met with stiff resistance and condemnation.
  10. Allies around the world would condemn the U.S. and impose economic sanctions, leading to long-term diplomatic and economic isolation.
  11. Such a move would tarnish America’s reputation as a proponent of international law and stability.
  12. BONUS POINT : You would probably create a huge democrat state by doing so... not sure it would play in Trumps favor.

While it is scary, and we shouldn't ignore threats like these, it seems EXTREMELY unlikely this would even happen.

edit : fixed alignment, sorry about that.
