Is Lion El'Johnson stupid? (rant)

So, Im finishing up Angels of Caliban by Gav Thorpe right now and it seems to me that the Lion is literally making every wrong decision he can at every oportunity he gets.

Throughout the whole Dark Angels arc in the HH novels he does the most stupid things he can in any given situation:

  1. He banishes Luther, Zahariel and a bunch of Space marines who had nothing to do with the nuke brought by the Saroshi to his ship in the Descent of Angels novel. I kinda get why he would sent Luther away but he did it in the worst way possible AND for some reason he sent Zahariel away too which is strange, because he didnt do anything wrong and it is implied a bunch of times that the Lion holds him closer than most legionaires because he killed a Calibanite Lion while he was still an Aspirant in the Order, which is something that I believe only the Lion himself had done up to this point. So basically instead of doing something about Luther like having a talk or something he singlehandedly sealed the fate of his homeworld and created the Fallen on a whim.
  2. He reprimands Luther and his men infront of a bunch of other legions at the beginning of Angels of Caliban which is straight up stupid and probably antagonises him even more in the eyes of his men.
  3. He apparently banished Astelan too because of his disagreement with Belath during the story Call of the Lion. And it is implied that he did it because Belath is a Calibanite while Astelan is a Terran therefore the Lion respects Belath more, which in and of itself is retarded not to mention that the whole debacle in this short story was entirely Belaths fault.
  4. The Lion seems to be a bit autistic too, because he is utterly unable to read the people around him and it doesnt turn out cool as it does for example with Sevatar. For the Lion it turns into him not being able to sense the pretty obvious treachery of the Mechanicus on Diamat AND he gives Perturabo the siege guns without a second thought after Perty tells him he should have been the Warmaster which is an obvious manipulation.
  5. He fucks up Imperium Secundus just because he HAS to disrespect Guilliman and Sanguinius over and over again and does stuff that they explicitly tell him not to do. Whats even dumber is that he decides to "do whats right" or whatever in the stupidest moments possible. So he doesnt give a damn about Guillimans opinion on his tactics while he is hunting Curze on Maccrage BUT when he finally has the fucker right where he wants him he decides to be a good little kitty and bring him to a trial KNOWING FULL WELL THAT ITS CURZE AND HE OBVIOUSLY HAS SOMETHING PLANNED. He also has the audacity to talk back to Sanguinius and Guilliman after breaking his oaths to them and doesnt even care to apologise for what he did. Not only this but he is utterly convinced that he is straight up better than Guilliman because he doesnt like using boring stuff such as diplomacy and doesnt like to think about anything else than blowing stuff up in the most efficient ways.
  6. He kills Nemiel for disagreeing with him while his ship was stranded in the warp with no geller fields and his men were being slaughtered by Tzeentch's chaos spawns. I mean Nemiel was obviously in the wrong in that situation but the demeanor of both characters is nothing short of idiotic.

He obviously has his moments and he is a military mastermind but his godalful people skills and politics really make him kind of annoying sometimes. Based on militarly skills alone he might rival Horus BUT when it comes to everything else its not even close so idk why anyone would think he would have been a good choice for a Warmaster.
